I’m headed to San Diego for West Coast Sevens’ final stop.

If you’re there too β€” say hello, hand me sunscreen, tell me I’m taller than you expected…

Sevens Updates

If we’re missing you, you gotta send us a note so we’re in the loop.

Indiana

Mudsock are the Fall Champs.

Sporting a 13-0 season record, they left no doubt in Elkhart last weekend as they went unbeaten and took home the trophy.

Check this out: 448 points for, 142 against. That’s one hell of a season.

Shout out to championship MVP Sam Hawkins Jr. for notching a hat trick in the final and being a force all season.

Well done, Mudsock boys β€” and congrats!

Colorado

Monarch takes a bow.

Literally.

That’s what you do when you go undefeated once again in week 4 of Colorado Sevens. Well done, lads.

Highlands Ranch hosts the next Colorado sevens weekend. We’ll see if anyone can slow these guys down.

Utah

Just as we were getting ready to crown a Utah sevens champ, Mother Nature said β€œnot so fast”.

Championship delayed. Weather wins again.

This weekend will see the same crew of squads we mentioned last week face off for the championship. Keep an eye on the Northside Red Wolves and the Cavemen.

Ohio

St. Ignatius. Good grief, guys.

They’re 10-0 now, having defeated Benedictine and Shaker Heights last week.

What’s got our attention is this stat: 335 points for, 17 against…

That’s just ridiculous.

Ohio has some very good sevens squads, but Iggy just keeps raising the bar.

We can’t wait to see them face St. Edward again. They’ve been the only side to push Ignatius to the limit this fall. We’re here for a rematch.

Pennsylvania

Doylestown in the driver’s seat. La Salle and Elizabethtown close behind.

The Doylestown boys didn’t give up a single try last weekend while going 3-0. But it’s worth noting that they did not face any of the top teams. There are three teams holding an 8-0 record:
Doylestown
La Salle
Elizabethtown

And Berks County, sitting at 7-1, are right in the mix.

This weekend, some of these top teams will finally face each other β€” and we’ll see who the contenders and pretenders really are.

West Coast Sevens round 3

SoCal. 85 degrees of pure sunshine. A full field of high school boys and college men’s teams.

And everybody is chasing the Carmichael Hawks (HS Division) and Cal Berkeley (College Division).

The Hawks are eyeing a perfect 3-0 sweep of the 2026 West Coast Sevens circuit. Last year, they captured the NorCal stop before falling short in Oceanside. This year they’ve already rolled through Los Angeles and Stanford, but a group of SoCal squads are gearing up to play spoiler.

OMBAC is back. Torrey Pines joins the fun. Cathedral Catholic gets a third shot. JSerra Catholic and Rancho Bernardo round out a strong SoCal contingent.

If Cash Lazard and Seti Perona get their way, Noah Gomez will be mic-dropping with one hand and holding a trophy in the other on Sunday afternoon.

But I wouldn’t bet against the hometown boys. OMBAC, Cathedral, and Torrey Pines could all be bringing their strongest rosters, since they’re local. And while we haven’t seen JSerra or Rancho Bernardo on the circuit yet, I expect some familiar faces. That’s kinda the SoCal vibe.

In the college division, Cal are the undisputed favorites to sweep the series again. The Golden Bears have been borderline unstoppable. The University of San Diego has a shot at disrupting them, but it’s a tall task.

It all sets up for an electric finish to a terrific sevens series.

Can’t wait to see it unfold in person πŸ‘Š

πŸ₯Dad Rock FTW

We were curious which artists players are picking for their hype songs.

Guess which three bands kept popping up?
Alice In Chains
AC/DC
Foo Fighters

Yeah, the top three bands featured on player profiles are also the top three bands on a pirated cassette tape in your dad’s attic somewhere.

β€œWrestling without rage is just cuddling…”

Ari Emanuel

So, rugby without rage is just… soccer?

Just kidding, boys β€” keep a cool head out there.

Tidbits:

πŸ’ͺ Spencer Huntley is thriving across the pond at Hartpury. It seems like half the highlights they post feature Spence making it happen.

βš”οΈ Franciscan vs Slippery Rock is the NCR game you actually don’t want to miss this weekend. They’ve played 12 times β€” splitting it with 6 wins apiece over the years. Oh, and they’re ranked #2 and #3 this week in the coaches poll.
It’s gonna be a slobberknocker.
Full disclosure: I’ve got two little brothers playing for Franciscan and I hope they kick some ass. So yeah I’m biased, sue me.

🀣 Goofball alert: Lindenwood dropped this gem of their squad attempting a lip-sync battle. The choreography was questionable, but unquestionably entertaining.
Was that a Shay Farkash sighting? And Sam Enochian?

Oddball musings, thanks to the cold tub.

πŸ‰ Apparently some dudes are paying money to make their ears look like they have cauliflower ear. They know you can get those for free, right? Also wtf

πŸ‰ Many colleges are doing a piss-poor job of celebrating their new recruits from high school. It might seem silly, but giving the new kids a shout out on social media wouldn’t kill ya.

That’s a wrap, gang!

Next week we’ll have more dope rugby stuff to share with you; scores, highlights, stories… all the goods.
